The big Silversides of that body of water returned to appear, after heavy rains in the area. Image gallery.
One of my favorite for fishing pejerrey is, without a doubt, Cochicó Lake, located in Guaminí. Four years back, in the same place, we fished with the almost guaranteed success, since it was not failing.
But a couple of years, however, it began to lose water and fishing decreased a great deal, until it was extinguished. He invaded me sadness to see it during my last visit, in late 2011. The village seemed a ghost town, since most of the families were forced to emigrate in search of new tourism alternatives, because the mirror was their source of work.
On my visit in 2011, alongside Sergio Taha toured the laguna Alsina, capturing a significant amount of mackerel, but none of good size. At the end of this exit we agreed that if Cochicó recovered the flow and returning the coveted Silver arrows, I wanted the scoop.
It is like everything else in nature: you remove, but also gives you. During the winter and spring of 2012, the heavy rains reported in the area produced severe flooding. Rivers and Brooks dragged plenty of water, which raised quite the dimension of the laguna Alsina, to such an extent that the gate overflowed. It was so Cochicó Lake grew more than 2.50 m, taking it to revive its golden times, with clean, clear water.
I was in the city of Mar del Plata when, shortly before January 1, the phone rang. It was Sergio Taha to pre-empt the expected scoop. And as we had promised, we plan to return. As he told me that night, more than 76 silverside of very good size, between 400 and 600 g, testing adrift, with short snoods they fished in an output between friends. However, he made clear that while that day was cold and ran some wind, the days that followed were warm and without a drop of wind, something that complicates the fishing.
I accepted the invitation immediately, and agree by mid-January. While it is not the best time for fishing pejerrey due to high temperatures, we undertook the difficult task of trying it. So it was that early, that 13 of January we were equipped to deal with the Cochicó Lake, where Sergio had the boat ready to take advantage of the cool of the morning.
They were just the 7:30 and we already surcábamos the mirror in search of the fishing spot. The air was cold, with wind from the Northeast sector, though the clarity of the water was that caught the attention. The idea was to fish adrift, with the anchor by dragging on the bottom, so that the boat does not move very fast. You must shorten the string to make the boat go faster, or extend it if we want to reduce the speed.
As soon as the lines touched the water and before they met five minutes, Sergio and Eduardo had captured two beautiful silverside. This made us to assume that we would have an excellent day, but the “dientudos” played us a dirty trick. From that moment the buoys were dancing, Doublets and triplets were common and not gave him time to eat Silversides, since they snatched him bait.
We decided to relocate, the shores of the Nile and Don Otto were chosen, but not very close, since it was impossible to fish with the amount of “dientudos”. The bait lasted nothing, both canar misstep was exhausting. But after many tests found the key: the key was in the bait.
Embodying with filet of dentuda well cut and small gerreidaes was useless: the “dientudos” plucked us the hook immediately.
Then we changed, and prepare the bait as if we were fishing tarariras. We cut the snaggletooth, without getting the scales, in three parts: head, body and tail. That way the bait lasted us most in the hook, and it was difficult the dientudos arrived to dig.
Up and down
Since fishing was adrift, we left to lead the line as far as who could be the boat. But the difficulty lay in that cost us see the buoys, since we had the Sun in front. The solution was to have the nylon over the toe, holding and loosening so that the hooks were making a game of ups and downs. And when the nylon be tightened quickly, we beat the canazo. At that moment the water, back away from the boat, exploited.
The size of the Silversides was very good, but with the characteristic of being short and wide. All specimens were heavy fights and none fell 38 cm, including several Doublets, regardless of the temperature rise of the water.
The line used was a model designed by Sergio Taha Guide, the locals know how versatile. It’s a store of 2 or 3 buoys, in accordance with the length of the cane that we use. Buoy that serves as a pointer, is a branch line of about 80 cm, with 2 or 3 hooks tied on the same nylon. The detail to keep in mind is that these snoods have not plomito, otherwise this will function as the anchor, slowing down the hell of the line and, therefore, not fishing.
It is recommended that the hooks are large, minimum size of 1/0 or 2/0, due to the amount of bait that we put, we taparíamos the tip of a small hook.
Return to life
Lake Cochicó us not only surprised by the large amount of water that it had, but also to check that the town came to life. Hundreds of tourists visit it every weekend to take advantage of the warm waters of the mirror. This place has a wide range of services, which includes cabins, boat rental, lowered boats, hotels, food of all kinds and many other attractions.
Sport fishing is one of the biggest magnets in this area for seasoned fans, children may enjoy capturing dientudos boyita coast. Let us hope that mother nature and the authorities that protect this water mirror are aligned in maintaining the resource, and thus this particular area, a true classic of the silverside fishing can continue enjoying.
