Today, we present in Sin-Our site, an interview with Cyril Gressot Our site, monitor the Mediterranean tuna fishing guide. Cyril will present his story, his profession, and we will try to learn a bit more about enjoys fishing in general.
Eremy-Sin-Our site: Hello Cyril. First I wanted to thank you once again for the Guide day with you. I have indeed had the chance to experience fishing tuna, on hunting and the lure summer 2016; and the only thing I can say is that I can’t wait to go back!
First of all, could you introduce yourself to the readers of sin – mag.fr? Because in addition to being monitor guide tuna fishing, you do other activities, isn’t it?
Cyril Gressot: Hello Jeremy and thank you for this interview! There is not enough for the guidance of this summer, I do what I do to convey my passion and my knowledge and I am happy when my guys are happy!
I did long studies in the College of sciences of Montpellier, then a 3rd cycle in biology marine which led me to work at Ifremer to Tahiti. I then worked several years for the Department of the Gard, always in the field of water, as a territorial engineer. I have long exercised at the same time guides of fishing but incidental. It’s only this year that I has finally full-time this exciting business! I organize also some travel for fun and write regularly for several magazines fishing.
Jeremy-Sin-Our site: could you describe to our readers your activity of fishing in the Mediterranean guide specifically: what are the fishing periods, a typical day, fish met and/or sins and how?
Cyril Gressot: My specialty is fishing of bluefin tuna and the Lich on hunts and only lures. Periods of fishing for bluefin tuna are from July to October and for other species we encounter, like the Wolf, liches, and bonito, that runs from April to November. Sometimes I also meet some swordfish… but that is another story…
A typical day starts around the 8: 00 and we start by finding the liches to popper, then let’s track down tuna a little further off still lures because my creed is 100%leurres/100%emotions!
Happens to me quite often to capture in the same day of the liches, tuna and bonito, which corresponds to true tropical fisheries, but in France! My average capture of tuna on the season is 4 to 5 per day… not so bad.
Jeremy-Sin-Our site: I remember particularly well effect of pressure on the boat when we sighted a swordfish in hunting, a dream of kid to me, but unfortunately that won’t bite! I know that the protection of bluefin tuna close you to heart. Could you give us your feeling on the subject, on regulations implemented and their impact on people?
Cyril Gressot: most tuna that I capture are marked for scientific monitoring and then released. The goal is to follow their migration. It seemed inconceivable not to use my knowledge and my shots and put them at the service of research scientist. Several tuna I have marked have been re-captured allowing to follow their route. Quotas implemented in recent years were really successful, but we must continue the efforts in this area to allow our children to enjoy these treasures…
Jeremy-Sin-Our site: every year you organize in Quebec, specifically in the Osprey in James Bay Lodge, a giant pike fishing expedition. I must admit that videos are dreamy. How did you get this idea?
Cyril Gressot: I had the chance to discover the famous Jurassic Pike to James Bay with my ‘twin brother’ and friend Cyril Chauquet famous host of fishing XXL and bit of fishing. We left there it is ‘ a few years and have done a sin sick… with dozens of redundant in a day Pike. I made friends with the Manager of the outfitter who has allowed me to have exclusivity of this territory for french fishermen. I really fell in love with this place and go back every year is a huge chance!
Jeremy-Sin-Our site: you gave me on the day of guidance, friendship which you just related to Cyril Chauquet (bitten fishing-Fishing Adventurer-fishing XXL) or Patrick Sébile (brand Bowl) as well as the passion that drives you. How did you get this ‘addiction’ to fishing and would describe it how you?
Cyril Gressot: Yes, I have the chance to have as close friends of the famous fishers as Cyril Chauquet and Patrick Sebile. I think that this comes because the fishing world is small enough and that when we’ve always been really passionate like me, some meetings are naturally. I have this passion to my grandfather who captured me from my birth and taken to fishing… it in the blood! It is a real illness an obsession that don’t leave me a second in my life…
Jeremy-Sin-Our site: I share your sentiment completely, only fans can understand, we live the Sin on a daily basis! Whether for film shoots or your job, you’re so lucky to travel through the world. What is the place or places, apart from YOUR delta of the Rhône, you prefer fishing?
Cyril Gressot: Yes I have a lot of luck but it is not alone and it’s also a lot of work. James Bay is of course my favorite destination for fishing but I also love the Polynesia where I lived beautiful moments of fishing and other.
Jeremy-Sin-Our site: I’m bouncing on my previous question to ask what is your fish or your favorite sport fishing fish?
Cyril Gressot: Very difficult to answer because I like all the fish… but the Pike, the Lich and tuna come to mind!
Jeremy-Sin-Our site: it is noted that you hold the record of the world “IGFA all Tackle length” with a Lich of 1 m 50 captured last year! Cyril, thank you for taking the time to respond to these questions. I hope to return quickly to spend a day with you taste again the power of the bluefin and the adrenaline of a hunt! I’ll leave the final word.
Cyril Gressot: With great pleasure! I wait for you when you want. Difficult to resist the urge to come back when we discovered this crazy fishing fishing of bluefin tuna on hunts! It’s a real drug and I invite everyone to come taste… is not too dangerous and even advisable for health…!
