Transparent Fish Is Discovered in Rio Negro

Its closest relatives are known by habitat, Anatomy and the tiny length (the smallest fish in the world is only 7 mm less than him).

The beast has 1.7 cm in length and lives in a watercourse, which has more than 30 km wide. As if that weren’t enough, the largest part of your body is transparent and he only comes out to swim at night. So, it’s easy to understand why until today no one had managed to get a Cyanogaster noctivaga to study. Now, scientists at the University of São Paulo (USP) went to the Rio Negro, in the middle of the Amazon jungle, and finally “brought up” this curious fish.
The enterprise that managed to capture specimens of this fish was in October 2011, but only now he’s definitely being identified and catalogued.
Noctivaga Cyanogaster is a fish so unusual that is, so far, the only species of your gender (Cyanogaster). Still no name “Brazilian”, this tiny denizen of the waters of the Rio Negro was presented by scientists George Mattox, Ralf Britz, Monica Toledo-Piza and Kojo.
It was not easy to photograph one of these alive. Scientists had to navigate the River at night – because the fish is nocturnal, guided by an unusual glow: the belly of the Cyanogaster is blue, and emanates a slight glow in the dark, like a Firefly. When they were able to remove one of them from the water, pulling across the network, the fish died immediately. For that reason, they had to shoot it out of the water. The researchers placed an underwater camera in a tank, very close to the surface. To register the fish, it was necessary to pull it across the network and transferilo for the “photographic tank”, everything in the water.
A teeth never seen before – two arches with only four teeth in different formats, in each a-is what differentiates the Cyanogaster from any other genus of fish. Its closest relatives are known by habitat, Anatomy and the tiny length (the smallest fish in the world is only 7 mm less than him).
This friendly Black River dweller is really a peculiar discovery.
